This is where I got my advanced open water PADI certification last year. It's a great just a little over an hour away from Richmond. Viz is excellent, and what's not to love when you can swim through a school bus, and see a Virginia Tech hydrofoil boat standing on it's nose at the bottom of the up to 63' lake!
Since the bottom is all granite rock, the water doesn't stir and become murky! Our lake also supports numerous species of fish, crayfish, snails, and a special kind of algae that resembles coral, all while retaining excellent water quality.
Some of our underwater attractions include "Wayne" a sunken school bus on a rock shelf in 30 feet of water, two cabin cruisers, cars, and huge boulders of granite walls with explorable niches and crevices.
